down operations -- plant has shut down operations. today alexandria held a celebration. elected officials praised two residents who investigated and hired researchers to study the plant's emissions and the health effects on people who lived in the area. the findings show the plant was spewing concentrated contaminants into the neighboring community which caused hundreds of health problems and resulted in 59 deaths. >> what was once the largest source of air pollution in the d.c. region will be no more because of citizens involvement. >> this plant was a mistake in the first place and we're correcting that because it should never have been placed here, especially with the shortened smokestacks. >> the five smokestacks had to be short because the power plant is in national airport's flight path. coming up at 6:00 you're going to meet the woman who raised the questions and start investigating the potomac river power plant 11 years ago. >>> the presidential debate is two days way and will take place in the battleground state of colorado. each candidate is getting ready for the debat
